The International Space Station is getting a new addition. Astronauts from the space shuttle Atlantis are installing the station’s first new piece of equipment in more than 3 1/2 years.
The 45-foot-long addition includes two solar panels that will help generate electricity. It weighs 17 1/2 tons! The gigantic piece of equipment will give the station a major power boost. The extra power will be needed as the station grows with new European, Russian and Japanese additions.
