Germany: Merkel Defends Pope

German Chancellor Angela Merkel defended the remarks of Pope Benedict XVI, an ethnic German, on Sept. 16, asserting that the pontiff was attempting to stimulate a "dialogue between religions," something she said was a laudable goal.
