Islamists seize Somalia port
Sep. 25, 2006

13-year-old boy was shot dead by Islamic militia Monday during demonstrations against the militia's takeover of a strategic port town, witnesses said.

Islamic militia with white bands on their heads had opened fire on several thousand protesters in Kismayo, 420 kilometers (260 miles) southwest of the capital, Mogadishu. Sporadic gunfire could also be heard in other parts of the town, Somalia's third largest.

Kismayo resident Abdiqadir Filibin said he saw the 13-year-old killed. Two other children were injured by gunfire, witnesses said on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.
