The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Rocks Fan's Sox
In the novel, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Ann Brashares, there are various settings. This is true because the four main characters all went to different places for their summer vacation. One traveled to Baja, one went to Greece, one went to South Carolina, and the other girl stayed back and spent her summer vacation in her home town, Washington D.C., and they all had fun. They all missed each other very much from whatever part of the world they were staying at. They sent letters by mail. They also included a pair of pants in the postage to remember each other. The different settings of the story bring the girls together and apart.
The main characters of the story are four girls, Carmen, Lena, Bridget, and Tibby. Carmen is the sensible one. She usually gives advise to her friends, but sometimes she needs to consider taking her own advise. Lena is really pretty, but really self-conscious. All of the guys like her, but she doesn’t like them back. Bridget is outgoing and adventurous. When she wants something, she is determined to get it. Tibby is your average teenager. She is in denial, most of the time, about the events in her life. The four girls are extremely good friends and love each other like sisters.
The most noticeable conflict was when the girls were leaving each other. They didn’t want to be separated from each other. The only way for them to stay connected to their friends, besides writing letters, was the traveling pants. They found a pair of pants that fits all of them, which is kind of a miracle. They would send it around the globe, no matter where they were stationed. Lena would get them first, then Tibby, then Carmen, and then Bridget. It was a way to keep them together over the summer when they didn’t want to be apart.
The girls are happy when they resolved their situation. They all departed to the location of which they would spend their summer. When each of them received the traveling pants, they felt like they had a piece of their friends with them. The pants made each of them feel better when they were sad. Having the traveling pants was a good idea. I think that the change that the pants brought to the girls was good. They were happy and felt together as they weren’t. The story ends as the girls reunite. It was a good ending because it tied everything together. I really enjoyed the book, and I recommend it for others.
