Asteroids: History's Greatest Killers?

Erupting volcanoes can cause rivers of boiling lava, giant explosions, and mudslides. But according to two new studies in Science magazine, volcanoes are not history's greatest killers—that title goes to asteroids.
Asteroids are rocky objects in space. They are sometimes called minor planets, because they are much smaller than planets. Scientists believe that there are millions of boulder-size asteroids in the solar system.
