Global Warming Taking Over Our Planet
You hear about it everyday, but never really know what global warming is. It is when the atmosphere becomes so thick that all of the sun’s energy and radiation are absorbed. It might not seem so bad, but it can seriously harm our environment. You may not be able to feel it, but in the last 300 years, the temperature has been fairly constant. Recently, the temperatures all around the world are beginning to skyrocket. Just last year we had several massive heat waves that killed close to hundreds of people.
This will not stay just at the rate of killing hundreds of people every year. If global warming continues at the rate that it is at, then we will all perish in the heat someday. In addition to harming people, global warming also harms the animals. For example, the arctic glaciers are melting. This will cause many animals to loose their homes. You have probably heard this a million times before, but there is a good reason behind all of these explanations. Try looking at it this way; pretend you’re a polar bear who lives on the arctic ice. One day there is a crack in the ice, and in as few as 36 days, your are stranded in the water. You see a small sliver of ice still floating in the distance. Once you use all of your energy to get to it you discover that you are too heavy to fit on top of that one little piece of ice. Slowly your enormous body pulls you down under the waves and you drown.
This really happens in our world, not only to polar bears, but also to a vast majority of animals. This is how, slowly but steadily, animals go extinct. When you look outside in the morning, just picture the seen without the singing birds to wake you up. Picture a world where catching even the smallest fish would be so rare as to cause a celebration. If all of these animals die, our lives wouldn’t be the same, and the change would not be for the better.
In honor of Earth Day, you should take some time out and think about what we are doing to the environment. We are killing the plant, animals, and even ourselves. What can you do to help? You could encourage yourself and others around you to recycle. It takes several hundreds of years for materials like plastic bags and plastic bottles to decompose. Some things never decompose, and are left to pollute our plant forever. Do we want that? The answer is no. We should be trying our hardest to revive the environment, and not to destroy it. If we keep it up at this rate, all of our lives will be in serious danger someday.
