Reality TV Gone Too Far

The reality TV show, Kid Nation, may have given the children too much freedom. There have been several complaints that the children have been getting hurt and exploited.

Kid Nation is a reality TV show produced by CBS. 40 kids are sent into ‘the middle of nowhere’, or actually New Mexico, with no modern conveniences to try and build up a new society. All of their effort goes toward winning $10,000 dollars in prize money. The children, ranging from 8-15, will have to do all of it by themselves, with no help from any adults.

The problem comes in when child labor laws are concerned. The children work 24-hour days with barely any rest. Authorities believe that the kids are working too much, considering their ages. When authorities tried to investigate they never made it onto the premises, turned away by producers.

They eventually discovered that adults were actually there, and that the kids were being monitored. When they did some further research, they discovered that parents had to sign a 22 page long contract, releasing the kids to the hands of the producers.
